THE GP SERIES
-
GP1
The softest rubber in our lineup, GP1 provides exceptional stickiness while staying flexible in cold conditions, making it ideal for winter use.
-
GP1-PRO
The highest-performance option in our lineup, GP1-PRO delivers the same stickiness as GP1 while offering greater durability, making it perfect for both indoor and outdoor climbing.
-
GP2
The all-rounder in our lineup, GP2 is a stiffer option with stickiness comparable to other Italian rubbers. It performs well in all climbing scenarios.
more details
GP1
Shore Hardness: ~55A (very soft)
Feel & Performance: GP1 is the softest rubber in the RATOM line, designed to deform and “flow” into even the tiniest surface textures. That softness translates to unbeatable smearing performance and friction on low-angle or polished holds.
Best For: Cold or indoor conditions where rubber needs to stay pliable. Climbers who prefer sensitivity and a glove-like feel underfoot will love it.
Notes: Because of its softness, GP1 can wear faster under aggressive edging or outdoor granite, but its stickiness is unmatched when conditions demand maximum friction. We do not recommend using GP1 outdoors in hot conditions due to how soft the rubber becomes under heat.
GP1-PRO
Shore Hardness: ~60A (soft, but firmer than GP1)
Feel & Performance: GP1-PRO shares the same racing-slick DNA as GP1 but with added firmness. The slight increase in hardness makes it more durable while retaining high levels of grip. Expect excellent smearing with noticeably improved edging support compared to GP1.
Best For: Indoor competition style, smearing, and no-tex type holds. Ideal for gym climbers who need dependable rubber across a variety of angles and holds, and outdoor climbers who want both friction and support.
Notes: GP1-PRO strikes a balance—more durable than GP1, grippier than harder compounds. It’s the best choice if you want high performance without sacrificing too much support or longevity.
GP2
Shore Hardness: ~65A (firm)
Feel & Performance: GP2 is built for all-around performance. It’s the most firm rubber in the GP series, but it’s still a soft rubber being slightly softer compared to other Italian sole manufacturers. GP2 gives climbers the support they need on micro-edges and vertical terrain, while remaining perfect for competition, board, and outdoor styles of climbing. While it doesn’t have the ultra-soft stickiness of GP1/GP1-PRO, it still carries RATOM’s signature sticky feel thanks to the racing-slick base material.
Best For: Steep, technical climbing and outdoor routes where edging precision and durability matter most. Perfect for climbers who burn through softer rubbers too quickly.
Notes: GP2 sacrifices some smearing performance (compared to GP1), but its control, stability, and long wear life make it a workhorse for advanced boulderers and sport climbers alike.
Adjustable Support System
For unprocessed sheets, Each GP rubber sheet is reinforced with multiple layers of fine wire-mesh. This unique construction allows you to customize the support and rigidity of your shoe soles. By sanding away different amounts of the wire-mesh, you can fine-tune the balance between stiffness and softness:
Leave more mesh: Creates a stiffer, more supportive sole for edging power and long days on steep or slab terrain.
Leave less mesh: Reduces rigidity for maximum softness and sensitivity, perfect for smearing, volumes, and technical footwork.
This built-in adjustability makes GP rubber unlike any other climbing sole material — letting you decide exactly how your shoes perform.

Yes! We’re currently working on getting other resole shops to carry GP Rubber. If your local shop doesn’t yet, let them know—we’re expanding availability. You can also contact us directly for help finding a partner.

Unprocessed sheets come with a natural backing that still needs sanding before they can be cut and applied to shoes. Processed sheets have already been pre-sanded by us, giving them a clean, uniform surface that’s ready for cutting and resoling right away. Choosing processed saves you time and labor, while unprocessed sheets give you the flexibility to handle prep work yourself.
-
While we can’t share the exact compound we use, what we can say is that not all racing slicks are made the same. The particular formulation we work with is one that retains its softness and friction at room and outdoor climbing temperatures, without needing the extreme heat of a racetrack. This allows GP Rubber to feel naturally tacky and reliable the moment you step on the wall.
-
All our GP series rubbers are softer but denser than most climbing rubbers, making even our softest options last longer. GP2 holds edges very well, while GP1 and GP1-PRO offer a good mix of stickiness and durability.

Each GP rubber sheet measures 5.9 inches (15 cm) wide by 27.5 inches (70 cm) long. After processing, they’ll measure around 0.14 inches (3.5mm) thick depending on how much is sanded. This size provides enough material for multiple resoles, depending on shoe size and style.

The “GP” stands for Grand Prix, a nod to their racing-slick origins. The numbers and naming reflect the durometer hardness and intended use: softer for grip, firmer for edging.

Yes. Every sheet of GP Rubber repurposes materials from motorsport tires that would otherwise end up as waste. Choosing RATOM means choosing performance and sustainability.
